Wooden Toys and Joys Inc. was founded in 1997 by Bill Spoonhoward, a retired elementary teacher
and school principal. He always had an interest in all types of toys, but never considered using them as "educational
tools" until he introduced his wooden buzzsaw, an old fashioned, string-operated "button-on-the-string" type toy that he purchased
while on a driving trip in Virginia
After reading and thinking about the"tool", Bill took it
to school and taught his students the scientific principle and historic value associated with this simple toy. The students
really enjoyed the buzzsaw and after Bill realized he could teach scientific and historic concepts in such a unique manner,
he began looking for more of these "tools". In a short period of time, his collection grew dramatically.
Toys(as his students referred to them)-"educational
toys"(as Bill refers to them) became a big part of his teaching style. After retiring early from an enjoyable and productive
teaching career, he started his business and second career.This enjoyable "job" allows the "toyman" to travel and to educate
and entertain people of all ages to learn with toys that he continues to collect , make and sell.Hopefully, we will talk to
